This Florida weather is Wet!

West, Central Florida is Drenched!

When will the rain stop in Florida?  I typically play golf three to four times each week but since Tropical Storm Debbie, I’ve played twice.  With all the rainfall, our local courses are under water.  I played on Friday but, of course, it was cart path only.  Well, imagine all that walking when it’s in excess of 95 degrees!  I was lucky to complete nine holes.  In fact, I brought out my dirty, dinged, ugly balls with the knowledge that if I missed the cart path, I’d leave them.  Crazy, but not worth getting heat stroke over.

When the weather is wet, be sure to call the course to discover the course conditions.  Playing with a 90 degree rule is not terrible (compared to cart path only) so be sure to adhere to the course requirements.  The damage done by aloof golfers to fairways takes weeks, if not months, to repair and greatly reduces other players’ enjoyment on the course.

Here’s hoping that our day long rains stop so that our courses can survive…and my game’s survival!

Another Way to Stay Cool While Golfing

Its A Breeze Cart Fan $29.95

Its A Breeze Cart Fan

Living in Florida, we have most days in excess of 95 degrees and choose to continue to golf.  I’ve read many blogs about how to stay cool, and wanted to add one more idea.  My husband loves to golf and shop, and he found this through our site.  This golf cart fan clips onto the dashboard of the golf cart and connects to the cart battery for power (no need to carry multiple AA or AAA batteries in your golf bag).  The fan oscillates so we both feel the breeze when there is no wind.  We even take a mister with us and spray in front of this fan to cool us down even more.  There is barely a golf round we play that this is not on and keeping us going.

Comfort in your golf shoe

Women's Bradyn Golf Shoes

Women's Bradyn Golf Shoes

I talk on and on about comfort with your shoes and attire while golfing.  I bought a pair a Crocs when they first came out.  I just couldn’t get a black pair, so I bought Hot Pink.  Go figure.  As much as I love the comfort and lightness of the shoe, I just couldn’t handle the look with a pair of shorts…kind of felt like a duck.  So I typically wore them in heavy rain and with long pants only.  I know a guy who wore his Crocs constantly, but with white ankle socks (strong visual!)

I recently read a review on Crocs new golf shoe and my curiosity peaked.  Wouldn’t it be great to have the comfort of a Croc while golfing?  So, I looked at their site and was amazed at the different looks that they have designed over the years.  Then I started wondering if this lightweight shoe would work on the course.  I am lucky enough to supply not only Crocs golf shoes but all of their designs (click on the banner on the right side of my pages).  I’ve place a few sandals and shoes on my pages for you to see.  When you go to their site, check out the other products…not all look like the traditional Crocs.

Consider buying a few pair to wear on and off the course.  I think you will have happier feet!

Cheap and Easy Help with Putting

Aim Pro Golf Carabiner Ball Liner

Aim Pro Golf Carabiner Ball Liner

I had lasik monovision done last year and found that it has really messed up my putting alignment.  So, I started aligning my putter to my location and then addressing my ball.  It typically works but I feel like a beginner.  There has to be a better way.

I played golf with my sister and she had placed lines on her ball for putting.  She simply aligns the line with the cup and sets up her address based upon this line.  So, for $5 I found the cheap and easy help with my putting.  Click it out and let me know.

Is Sexy OK for the Golf Course?

I’ve got to tell you a short story. When I was 23 I became a CPA and one of the first things I did was join the local CPA society.

Too Sexy?

One of the many men I met gave me a book “Women’s Guide for Dressing for Success.” I thought this was quite nice of him, caring for my future as a CPA. Well, the bottom line was in order to be successful, I needed to dress like a man; dark suites, flat shoes, no make-up…you get the picture. Regardless, I was a little peeved because I preferred dresses and 3 in heels and had no intention of dressing like a man.

Okay, so now you know where I’m coming from with this topic. I strongly feel that we do not need to look like men on the golf course. You would rarely see me in long pants and polo shirt so that at a distance you might question my sex.

There are extremes in everything, even golf. You also won’t see me dressed in a very short skort with a mid drift top cut too low. But, I do want to dress like a lady and still have some fashion sense with my look. I feel better about myself when I know I look good. Is that sexy? It depends who I’m talking to about the subject. The bottom line is I feel sexy when I dress nice. One of the new styles in golf shirts that I love along with a skort (which is quite feminine looking) is my favorite golf attire. If I dress sloppy (plain polo which is too large and plain, wrinkled shorts) I don’t feel good about myself and it does carry over into my score.

So, when considering what to wear on the golf course and how sexy it is, if you’re comfortable and it is acceptable attire at the course…Go For It!

New Senior Golf Rules

No Way!!

Rule 1.a.5 A ball sliced or hooked into the rough shall be lifted and placed on the fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the rough with no penalty. The senior player should not be penalized for tall grass which grounds keepers failed to mow.

Rule 2.d.6(B) A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed not to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree and play the ball from there.

Rule 3.B.3(G) There shall be no such thing as a lost ball. The missing ball is on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else, making it a stolen ball. The senior player is not to compound the felony by charging himself or herself with a penalty.

Rule 4.c.7(h) If a putt passes over a hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The law of gravity supersedes the Rules of Golf.

Rule 5. Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This does not apply to balls more than three inches from the hole. No one wants to make a travesty of the game.

Rule 6.a.9(k) There is no penalty for so-called “out of bounds.” If penny-pinching golf course owners bought sufficient land, this would not occur…. The senior golfer deserves an apology, not a penalty.

Rule 7.G.15(z) There is no penalty for a ball in a water hazard, as golf balls should float. Senior golfers should not be penalized for manufacturers’ shortcomings.

Rule 8.k.9(S) Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment. Since this is financially impractical for many senior golfers, two strokes per hole may be subtracted for using old equipment.

Please advise all your senior friends of these important rule changes.

Pants That Are Also Capris

What a great idea…wear a pair of pants golfing and then if it get warmer, convert them to a pair a capris.  I have a pair of these and also convert to capris if the ground is wet and the pant bottoms are getting wet.  I haven’t found many of these on online and so check out this pair if you want to get more out of your ladies golfing attire.

Tennis and Golf Combo Clothes

I am finding more and more ladies who golf and play tennis.  Isn’t it nice that a lot of clothing can be worn in both sports.  Typically your tennis skorts won’t have pockets.  In golf, this is an inconvenience but I have worn skorts without pockets golfing.  Also, tennis skorts are typically shorter so if you have a great set of legs, go for it!  Both sports require that your attire allows for movement without any binding.  The tops are typically without a collar and form fitting.  Your tennis shoes can also be worn on the golf course as long as the ground is dry…you don’t want to slip and slide!  I’ve included two of my favorites of golfing/tennis attire below.

Have fun and enjoy…fore and love!

Couples Golfing

couples golfing

Women and men golfing together

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been playing golf or how good you are, there will come a time to play with the man in your life.  I know couples that this has been a disaster!  This is usually because of him (of course it wasn’t what we did or said).  If your man is a better golfer, he won’t be able to resist giving you lesson after lesson while you’re playing.  The end result will be that you are more nervous or just want him to shut up.  If you think this is at all possible, talk before the round and ask him to refrain unless you ask for help.  You may also run into the impatient side of your man.  If your nerves go ballistic, consider sitting out the next hole until you can calm down.  Try to make light if your game goes in the toilet and laugh at yourself…it will ease your tension and his.

There are other suggestions to make ‘couple’ golfing worthwhile.  The easiest and best recommendation is golf with another couple close to both of your skill levels.  If the women ride together, the potential tension within each couple will lessen. If all is going well, you can always change cart partners at the turn.

We always do it so don’t stop now, edify your man.  Say “Great Shot” and all those other things he loves to hear.  Who knows, he might even utter a compliment or two your way.  Be sure you follow all the rules of golf and exemplify golf etiquette.  If we can’t impress him with our game, at least we know the rules.

The most important thing to do, is remember why you wanted to golf together in the first place.  Don’t loose sight of this.  If it’s to have fun, well then have fun.  I’ve been golfing with my husband for over two years.  We laugh, we kiss, we touch, we have quality time together.  I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I challenge every couple to experience the joy of golf, together!

Buying great golf clothes on a budget

Okay, there are some great clothes that you want to buy but maybe you can’t justify spending the money.  I am probably not the only woman with this disease.  I struggle clicking on the ‘buy now’ when I know I can get 4 items at the department store that I am going to spend on this one.  What to do?

Lady Hagen Women's Pink Ribbon Hero Zip Ruffle Short Sleeve Polo

Lady Hagen Women's Pink Ribbon Hero Zip

Do yourself a favor and look in your closet.  Now really look and guess at how often you wear each piece of clothing.  Think about which pieces you always grab and which ones are bi-passed for a better look.  I’ve done this and 80% of the time, I pick the finer clothes versus the bargain basement items that I picked up at a steal; but I don’t wear them when I want to dazzle my man or friends.  They either don’t fit me quite right, the color is all wrong, or they just look worn out.

I am a very logical person and here is how I deal with this dilemma.  First, decide what your monthly budget is for buying clothes.  I started with $150 each month.

DKNY Women's Blocked Button Calypso Sleeveless Polo

That isn’t much when you think about all the times you pick up one or two items each time you go shopping.  I hold off buying anything for me for a month or two and now I have $300 to $450 to spend.

I have my wish list of what I want to buy.  Now, I look at my top picks and make sure that I have other items in my closet that I can mix and match with my new purchase.  I choose my items wisely and feel great when they arrive because of the 4 items I just bought, I have 7-10 new outfits.  Of course, I wear a new look that evening!

Golf hat or visor?

We all know that we need to protect our face from the sun when we golf, but hat or visor?  Here are some things to consider before you buy.

Visors:

TaylorMade Ladies Twig 2.0 Visors $27.95

TaylorMade Ladies Twig 2.0 Visors $27.95

1.  The full cloth strap style.  These stay on your head the best but can leave you with a divot on the back of your head.  Be sure the strap is adjustable, either with velcro or a tightening clip.

2.  The spiral strap.  These are comfortable because it is not as binding as the full cloth strap.  You may find yourself tightening the spiral strap throughout the round because they will loosen during play.

3.  Clip on visor.  This style maintains your hair style the best.  It slides on and leaves the back of your head open.  They can stretch out but can usually be molded back in place.

4.  Shoelace tie strap.  These are new on the market and work well for golf.  Just be careful not to get some hair caught when you tie.

All visors can be thrown in the washing machine.  I recommend not putting them in the dryer, instead, place them over a bowl when wet so they will keep their shape

Hats:

Nike Dri-Fit Plaid Headwear

Nike Dri-Fit Plaid Headwear $19.99

1.  Baseball style hats.  These work best with short hair or if you wear your long hair in a pony tailed pulled through the back.

2.  Tam style.  These look good on but the brim is typically small so it offers little protection from the sun.

3.  Full headwear.  These can be floppy hats, cowboy style hats, pitch or safari hats.  The length of your hair and hairstyle are important factors when wearing a full hat.  They offer the best sun protection because the brims are larger.  Just be sure the brim isn’t too big that it interferes with your concentration when you swing your club.  If hat hair is an issue, either keep the hat on the entire round (and 19th hole) or remove it in the ladies room and shape it back into style with a little water.

4.  Cold weather stocking cap.  Instead of protecting you from the sun, these will help keep your ears warm.  The other options are the sweatband style or a scarf hat style that you can remove during play and pull back up while in the golf cart.

Whichever you prefer, be sure it has a built in sweat band which you will need in the summer heat.
