Golfing in the heat of the summer

Golfing in the heat of the Summer

  • Wear light cotton fabrics, sleeveless shirts, and a visor or hat.  If you are going to wear a skort, be careful that the two layers of clothing is not too much in the heat.
  • Take 2 water bottles with you if not provided by the course.  Fill them up each time you come to a water cooler because you will want to drink at least 3 bottles during the round.  You can also add flavoring to one bottle for taste and/or energy.  It is also a good idea to have an extra towel to keep wet to wipe your neck and forehead.
  • Consider having a tee time in the early morning since it is much cooler and the heat won’t be a factor for all 18 holes.  You will have to contend with dew on the ground, but at least you can tell how the green breaks!
  • At the turn, stop and go in the clubhouse where the air conditioning will cool you down for a few minutes.
  • Limit the amount of alcohol consumed, it can hit you harder than usual.  An energy drink is a much better idea.
  • Instead of wearing your golf shoes and socks, consider buying a pair of golf sandals.  They will keep your feet cooler (and fresher).
  • Keep deodorant and baby powder in your golf bag to refresh yourself during play.
  • If you have long hair, put it up in a pony tail or another style so it won’t be on your neck.
  • If you are one of the lucky ladies that doesn’t sweat, wear all the make-up you want.  Otherwise, consider wearing only lip color so the melt down isn’t obvious and you can wipe your face to cool down.
  • Buy yourself a couple of cooling towels.  These can be frozen before the round or kept in cold water.  Place them around your neck, it does wonders!

Enjoy and have fun!
